I know it's pretty obvious, but practice makes perfect. And when you're OUT of practice, it shows.
I recently did a guest comic for my friend Jamie, for his webcomic 67th Avenue. I thought about doing something pixel, but then decided to draw it. Not sure if I should have done the pixel. Still, I liked the joke so I ran with it. It was hard, though. And as much as I think I probably could get good enough (with lots more practice) to do a hand-drawn comic, I just think my forte is pixel art. I know some people don't think of it so much as art, but it does take quite a bit of skill to make something look good in such a small place.
I have to shamefully admit I took a huge amount of time last week working on "sets" for BMW. The one good thing about pixel-art is that you can fall back on cut-and-paste for certain things. But, in order to do that, you first have to draw (or as I like to say "build") the art. Literally, I spent the better part of 2 days working on various things. Ugh and ugh. It ended up turning out well, and I was smart and made some template art, which is basically 90% of a picture where you can add some detail and morph it into different things.
Okay, my first post in 2 months! Phew. I have managed to finish a few projects and hopefully will be able to post here more often. Shooting to post at least once a week, maybe more!
